Under Construction

What have I been doing this Summer???

Sorry haven't posted in a while. It is Summer and I have been enjoying it!
The first week of June we went down to Charleston, SC with my In-Laws. It was so nice to be back in the South! We had beautiful weather and I got to lay out by the pool.




Aren't we a cute couple! I was so happy to get somewhat of a tan started.

When we got back from Charleston I turned around and went home to Tennessee for 2 weeks. I had a great time visiting with family and friends. I got to spend a weekend with my 2 best friends from High School/Collage. We rented a cabin in the mountains and had the best time without husbands & kids. It is so cool how you can be apart for so many years but when you get back together it's like you never been apart. We stayed up most of the night catching up. This will be something that we will try to do every couple of years!



We haven't aged one bit!

Of course I did find some time for sewing! I had to make presents for my friends. I made them each a large version of the Buttercup bag. I love the way they turned out.

I am still going to try and sell these bags on Etsy as soon as I get some more made. I am also working on 2 new quilt projects. I will post photos later. And I am going back home to TN next week for the quilt show. I hope I get lots of goodies!!!!

Buttercup Bags

I made some new Buttercup Bags this week. One is for me (finally!) and the other two are for gifts. These bags are made using a pattern from Made by Rae. She has stated selling the license to the purses so people can start selling them. I will be one of those people. My Etsy shop will be opening sometime mid-June and I will have Buttercup Bags like these for sale on my site.

Dawn's Baby Quilt

Dawn finally received her baby quilt! I know that her little girl Camille will enjoy it for years to come. I loved making this quilt. The inspiration came from a quilt I saw on Film in the Fridge's website.
I could not decided on what fabric to use on the binding so I used so of all. That is my favorite part of this quilt. This is also the first time I made a custom label with my logo on the quilt.

What have I been up to......

So I finally finished the shirt I wanted to make out of the Amy Butler fabric I bought a few weeks ago. I love how it turned out and if it is warm enough I will wear it to NYC this weekend. I did find out that it is really hard to take a photo of yourself while wearing it. Now I have 2 other shirts & 2 skirts to finish!



Steve went to Tampa this weekend and left me here....shame on him!
My friend Cindi took pitty on me and invited me over for dinner on Saturday. Cindy is a very talented artist and crafter so you can see why we get along. While dinner was cooking she taught me how to make paintbrushes out of Bamboo & Deer fur. I did tell the deer I was sorry before cutting the fur off of his tail. The brushes are so cool! I still have a lot to learn about making them but my first attempts were pretty good.

Happy Mother's Day

I decided to make Mother's Day cards for my 4 Moms. The cards are 5x7 raw edge applique and quilted then I did a zig-zag edge stitch onto watercolor paper. All the moms loved them! I thought they turned out cool.





In honor of Mother's Day - here is a sneak peak of the new baby quilt I am making for my friend Dawn who just had her 3rd child. A little girl named Camille Olivia. I can't wait to get it finished and sent to her!

Like I Need More Fabric.......

My new friend Cindy took me on a short quilt shop tour south west of were we live. Of course I bought some new fabric (like I need it - of course I do!). I have decided this spring/summer to make my own clothes. I just made a cute shirt (haven't taken a photo of it yet) and it turned out ok. I also have a great skirt pattern to make some new skirts from.

I am going to make a couple of skirts out of these. The fabric is Moda "Fresh Squeezed".




The first 2 fabrics are Amy Butler and I am going to make a skirt out of the first one and a shirt out of the pink floral. Not sure what to do with the funky bunnies but I will use it in something.



I just loved these Moda fabrics. I got them to make ME a new quilt and I want to work some linen into it.



Also I received my package from my April fabric swap partner who lives in the Netherlands. She sent me a red & white package. I just love the fabrics, the buttons and rick-rack. She also sent me a handmade pin cushion! I ended up with a great swap partner!

Buttercup Bag

I made my first Buttercup Bag last week with some of the fabric I picked up at the Quilt Show. This bag was made for my April fabric swap partner an it will be going off to the Netherlands! I like the bag so much that I will be making one for myself very soon (probably out of the new Owl fabric). When I made the bag I just loved how it looked as a clutch so instead of sewing in the straps I attached them with buttons so you can carry it both ways. Lancaster Quilt Show

Last Saturday I went with a bunch of lovely ladies to the Lancaster, PA Quilt Show. I came back with a new quilt rack, lots of cute fabric and plenty of inspiration!





Love, love, love the new fabric that I bought. As you can see I have been playing with the photo editing tool in flicker!
I can't decide if the Mermaids or the Owls is my favorite. It changes each day. Wait till you see what I am going to do with the Owls!

What's New!

I have been working on a lot of different quilting projects in the last couple of weeks -
My first blanket for the Mountain Baby Blanket project has been pieced. I used a "Wonky Block" design. It is really easy to do. Just decided the size of your block and offset 2 of the borders. Love how it turned out and it gave me a chance to use my cute animal fabric. I am backing it with a yellow dot fabric and will repeat the animal fabric on the back too. Can't wait to get it done!




I have also started a new project. Here are the blocks- they start out like flags then you cut them and arrange them. I will have to fill in with additional white. It is quilting by improvisation. This piece might be used as a wall hanging in our living room.
We will see how it turns out first!




The Stacked Coin quilt has finally been quilted! I am now hand stitching the binding. Steve said this was his favorite quilt!



I am so excited to be going to the Lancaster Quilt Show on Saturday (especially to be going with other quilters). Hopefully I will have lots of wonderful photos to share next week. That reminds me.....I need to go charge my camera battery!

Picking out Fabric

A lot of people ask me how I choose the fabrics for my quilts... As you can see from the photo below, I get a lot of help!!

Tote Bag

I saw this beautiful Linen/Cotton fabric at the NJ Quilt Fest and of course I had to buy it and use it to make a tote bag. The fabric is Echino Collection by Estko Furuya for Kokka. I just love the Owl & Tiger that is printed on it. You should check out all of their Japanese inspired prints.
I also found these great leather straps that have the pre-made holes that you can stitch on by hand.
This will be my new bag for spring!

Happy Birthday Mamaw Turner!

My mom received the quilt I made for my Grandmother's 90th Birthday (which is actually today). My Grandmother is having a party on Sunday where my mom is going to give her the quilt. I hope she likes it!
I am also making another quilt just like this one except the colors are different (more pinks & blues). I will post photos as soon as I am finished piecing it. Meanwhile enjoy the photos of my Grandmother's quilt. I love the red & white polk-a-dot background!

Thread Bowl

Last week I went to the New Jersey Quilt Show. I pick up a book at the show called "Fast, Fun & Easy Incredible Thread-A-Bowls" by Wendy Hill. I decide to try one this weekend. What an easy project. You can use all of your extra threads, (finally something to do with the extra thread you take off your bobbins!) fabric scraps, yarn scraps even the threads you cut off your fabric after you wash it. You put your "filler" between some Water-Soluble stabilizer and do a lot of stitching to hold it all together. Then you wet the stabilizer and mold it over the bowl shape to let it dry. I really like how my first on turned out. You will be seeing a lot more of these!

Birthday Quilt

My Grandmother is turning 90 this month so I believe that deserves a quilt! I just finished piecing it on Saturday. Yesterday I quilted it and added the binding. Now the fun part - hand stitching the binding. I have to have it finished this weekend for it to go in the mail. I will post photos of the finished quilt next week

Quilt Fest of New Jersey

I just attended my first quilt show - The Quilt Fest of New Jersey. I came back with lots of inspiration for future projects and lots of fabric and other goodies to play with. Here are some photos of my favorite quilts they had on display. One of these days I hope to be this good! Enjoy.
